The great debate between minimalists and maximalists continues, but we will forever have a soft spot for the simplistic, the well-organized, the Konmari’d to a T. Must we pick a side? Or can we exist somewhere in between? Minimal junkies confirm that this way of life isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
According to designer Courtney Nye, minimal doesn't have to mean stark and uncomfortable. “What helps to keep a space from feeling cold or soul-less is integrating a few items that have great texture, are sculptural or have a very handcrafted quality to them,” she says. It is more often than not that we see this style taken too literally, but we provoke you to have fun with it. Additions like lush greenery from your local plant nursery, or affordable art from Tappan Collective can be a small purchase with big reward when it comes to your editing your minimal living space.

So, take note as leading design minimalists share some of their most adored purveyors of all things understated.

For Leanne Ford sourcing furniture for her clients (and herself) always starts at Amsterdam Modern, an online retailer that only stocks mid-century modern furnishings from Holland. “It’s minimalist, cool and sometimes even a bit space aged,” she says. And she’s not wrong. Ultra-sleek treasures from the 50s’, 60s’ and 70s’ facilitate going down a rabbit hole pretty quickly. Ford is so biased to the shop that almost all of her projects contain a smattering of Amsterdam Modern finds. “I love this place to add style to my projects, no matter what aesthetic we are going for,” she adds.

When sourcing items we haven’t seen time and time again Daele heads straight to Garde. Here you can be sure to find contemporary, sculptural pieces that can make any room look like a work of art. A trip to Matter (even if just their URL) is like a cultural experience all on its own. The New York-based showroom, gallery and manufacturer is a must-shop for Van Daele. “They have some of the most stunning contemporary furniture and always are the first to know about great designers with incredible talent," she tells me.<br/>For linens to warm up your space, Van Daele heads to Morrow Soft Goods. Alpaca throw blankets and richly-hued bedding can transform an otherwise simple room. Van Daele claims they make “the most special linen duvets and sheets.” Don't have to tell us twice.

Nye introduces us to a tried and true favorite—Spartan Shop, a beautifully curated Portland-based boutique for homewares, furniture and lighting by independent artists and designers—their motto says it all, we practice the art of minimalism. “I especially love integrating ceramics and the Spartan Shop always has an incredible selection of one of a kind pieces,” she says. Nye isn't wrong, we almost bought up the whole stock.
