The way you spend your morning usually sets the tone for the way you'll spend the rest of your day. Sticking to a solid routine following your first few steps out of bed allows you to set up a successful approach to the hours ahead. MindBodyGreen recently gave a glimpse into eight morning rituals that ensure you'll have a great day every day, and we're sharing a few of our favorites below.
Give your mind a few minutes. Many find the official term "meditation" intimidating, but starting your day in a mindful way will help you handle and manage stressful situations. It's as easy as focusing on your breath (in through the nose, out through the mouth) while letting your mind relax. Set a five-minute timer so you're not late for work.
Take an energizing shower. A few minutes under a stream of cool water will wake you up and give you a boost of energy before you've even reached for the caffeine. Warm water can make you even more lethargic, so stick to colder temps for your morning rinse, which will also help stimulate fresh blood flow.
Stay disconnected from your devices. You'll likely be stimulated by all forms of technology for the rest of your day, so give yourself at least a half hour away from all screens as you wake up. What's the rush?
Stretch it out. Moving your body, whether it's a full yoga practice or a simple stretch, is super important for waking up your muscles and getting your blood flowing. It will also help energize you naturally. If you're sitting at a desk all day, your body with thank you.
Set a goal for the day. It doesn't have to be life-altering, but giving yourself some direction by setting even a small goal for the day that will start you off on the right foot and help you feel accomplished when the day is done.
