It's Here: The Ultimate MyDomaine Dream Home of 2018

Updated 05/01/19

Forget rustic wood floors and farmhouse-style cabinets—the "dream home" has changed a lot in the past year. At the start of 2017, Pinterest pieced together an image of the ideal home based on their most-pined interiors, and the style was a combination of traditional, modern, and rustic. As the year comes to a close, however, we thought it was time to tap our own archive to find out what a dream home looks like today—and boy, has it changed.

This year, the interior images on MyDomaine's Instagram account with the most comments and likes had a common theme: Every room had a crisp white canvas (white-washed brick, tile, and shiplap featured) with plenty of natural light, and the preferred color palette was cool and serene with jewel tones like emerald and amethyst emerging as a favorite. As for the most liked room of the year? A stunning bathroom with a standalone tub, brass details, and graphic artwork designed by Leanne Ford Interiors made your jaw drop.

So this is what a "dream home" looks like, according to the images with the most likes on MyDomaine's Instagram account. Step inside…

The Bathroom

The Room: This all-white bathroom took the top spot as the room with the most likes on MyDomaine's Instagram account. It's not hard to see why: This serene ensuite ticks all the boxes, featuring a standalone tub, statement artwork, brass details, and curved French doors. What more could you want?

The Designer: Leanne Ford Interiors is the mastermind behind this dream bathroom. "White is having a well-deserved moment, though it will never be outdated," Ford told MyDomaine earlier this year. "Even when you see a white space and you have no idea what country, year, or era it was designed, it will still look relevant and modern because white is universal. It's forever."

The Lesson: Styling an all-white bathroom? Make it pop with graphic accessories. Well-chosen artwork and textured towels can add instant personality without costly renovations.

The Bedroom

The Room: While Pinterest's 2017 predictions featured traditional bedrooms with plush accents, the bedroom with the most likes on our account was the polar opposite. This Scandinavian-inspired minimalistic space won out as one of the gorgeous rooms in The Apartment by the Line, an expertly styled boutique in New York.

The Designer: The Line founder Vanessa Trainer has great style in spades. Her genius boutique, a curated loft in the heart of SoHo, is up there with the best of our dream homes.

The Lesson: Use rugs to make an open-plan room feel more intimate. This bedroom shows that when carefully layered, rugs can add texture and visually segment a space so it doesn't feel sparse.

The Living Room

The Room: This stunning space was our living room with the most likes in 2017 with over 13,000 people agreeing the design is top-notch. The Los Angeles residence also embodies the top design trends to emerge this year: moody jewel tones (in-line with Pantone's latest prediction), textural velvet, and oversize round mirrors.

The Designer: Jette Creative designed the interior of this Spanish-style home in the heart of Los Angeles. "Using the existing features as inspiration, we added exposed beams in the main spaces, stained the wood floors, and added encaustic tiles to the kitchen and bathrooms throughout," the team explains.

The Lesson: Nervous about adding color to your living room? Experiment with dark, dusty greens and blues, which function almost as neutrals. Consider layering textures like velvet for an even more luxe-looking space.

The Kitchen

The Room: This expansive, moody kitchen makes a case for painting your cabinets. The color balances perfectly with a jewel-toned runner rug, exposed wood open shelving, and carrara marble benchtops.

The Designer: If you're familiar with the work of L.A.-based designer Amber Lewis, you'll know this kitchen is her trademark style. This Cali-cool home is located in Ojai.

The Lesson: Want to give your kitchen a modern facelift without gut-renovating? Give the bottom cabinets a slick of paint and tie it together with a textured runner rug.

The Dining Room

The Room: The ideal home isn't necessarily big. In fact, this dining nook was among the most popular posts of the year, proving that smart styling can transform small spaces.

The Designer: MyDomaine's former creative director, Mat Sanders, gave actress Nina Dobrev's home new life. Bursts of pink give this dining nook extra personality, and the space was styled with accessories from Sanders' store and interior design firm, Consort Design.

The Lesson: Lighting is everything. Brighten up a tired dining space by removing heavy drapes, cleaning window panes, and adding a pendant light.
