It takes a lot to stand out among Paris’s cabal of luxury hotels, but French boutique hotel chain Elegancia teamed up with floating solutions company Citysurfing to do just that with Off Paris, a new hotel that floats on the city’s historic Seine river.
Built in a converted catamaran, the three-star property features 58 rooms that range from $170 to $483 per night. And since swimming in the Seine itself is technically illegal (though that could change by 2024), Off Paris has an outdoor swimming pool to help guests cool off during those hot Parisian summers.
While European cities like Copenhagen, London, and Budapest already boast floating hotels, Off Paris will be the first of its kind in the French capital. The hotel is part of a new movement by Parisians to reclaim their city’s lifeblood as a public space. “There’s been a gap—not enough of a connection—between the Seine and Parisian life,” said Tal Lancman, one half of the award-winning design duo behind the hotel. “In our design, we celebrate this new city experience that hasn’t existed in Paris until now.”
After being towed down the river from Rouen, Off Paris becomes the biggest docked boat in all of Paris, which means it has plenty of room for non-hotel guests who just want enjoy a cocktail (or three) and the stunning city views from the hotel’s ultra-hip bar. Just don’t get seasick.
Will you stay at Off Paris the next time you find yourself in the French capital?
