Happenstance occurrences can often lead to the most fruitful outcomes. Such is the case with Ouli, a new design store in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Scott Barry, a graduate of CalArts, and Brooke Intrachat, a textile designer, inherited the storefront from a friend and decided to put on a holiday pop-up store in December 2013. Showcasing work from more than a dozen artists and designers, like ceramist Peter Sheldon, sculptor Paul Kraftenberg, and cashmere throw company Sorcha; the store has long outlived it’s pop-up life.
In fact, Ouli has quickly become a staple in the Los Angeles design scene. Though their curated collection of work from other artists is impressive, we have a feeling the products that Barry and Intrachat design themselves will soon be on many a wish-list. When we spotted Ouli's leather bean bag chair, both in cognac and silver metallic leather, we could only think: “Why has it taken so long for the beanbag to make it's comeback?” Clearly Ouli is thinking ahead.
