We've just reached the six-month mark in 2018, but true to form, we're already trend forecasting for the year ahead. Just today, PPG Paints released their definitive color of 2019: a deep hunter green called Night Watch. The brand describes the jewel-tone hue as a "rich, luxurious, and classic shade of green" that channels both "classic luxury" and the "restorative power of nature." Though it's a touch dark and should be used sparingly (it would make for a great accent wall), we're feeling the moody hue for 2019.
Like Pantone's 2017 Color of the Year (Greenery), Night Watch wants to allow designers and spaces to "emulate the feeling of lush greenery and the healing power of nature" in a timeless way, reads the announcement. "The restorative power of nature is important in society now more than ever," said Dee Schlotter, PPG's senior color marketing manager. "Night Watch is about bringing the healing power from the outdoors into your home through color. The dark green hue pulls our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming, invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature."
Science supports this sentiment; multiple studies have shown that simply viewing the color green, preferably in the form of nature, can actually restore your focus and attention. As far as color psychology goes, green has long been considered the color of harmony, balance, and restoration, and can help promote a restful, calming mood. For this reason, PPG writes that incorporating touches of Night Watch into urban or enclosed spaces is arguably more impactful. Channel Night Watch in your home with our picks below.
