My first thought upon laying eyes on Kourtney Kardashian’s home was Wow, she really loves Pierre Jeanneret chairs. (A quick count tallies her collection at 15). Considering good-quality originals hover around $10,000 a pop, you can see why I was barely keeping up. So who is this Pierre Jeanneret? Keep scrolling to find out.
Pierre Jeanneret was one of the Swiss architects behind Le Corbusier, with his cousin Charles Edouard. They designed multiple French homes and villas in the 1920s and 1930s and experimented with making minimalist furniture before splitting before World War II.
The pair regrouped in the early 1950s, when Le Corbusier invited his cousin to work on a project in Chandigarh, India. While he was doing so, Pierre Jeanneret created the furniture style he is known for today.
Fascinatingly, the cane chair’s humble beginnings as an office chair designed for the Indian government is now one of the most sought-after in the world, gracing dining rooms everywhere.
It seems as though once you start collecting pieces by the legendary architect, you simply cannot stop, as evidenced in this Berlin apartment, home to fashion boutique owner Emmanuel de Bayser. The home features at least two chairs and one bench by Pierre Jeanneret, alongside many other iconic 20th-century designs.
