Looking forward to a day by the pool but feel guilty about skipping the gym? Don't stress—you can do both. Cooking Light has collated three super-simple water workouts you can do at any pool to tone your body and stay healthy all summer long. Trade your workout clothes for a swimsuit, and try these easy pool exercises this weekend.
Face the side of the pool and position your hands on the edge, shoulder distance apart. Push down on the surface to lift your upper body out of the water, then stop half way, and maintain bent elbows. Press your shoulders back and down. Hold for three seconds, before lowering your body back into the water.
Head to the shallow end of the pool until you're chest-deep in water. Then, stand straight and kick one leg out in front of your body with pointed feet. Aim to keep your shoulders down and back straight. Return to a standing position and repeat with the other leg.
Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-distance apart and position your toes at a 45-degree angle. Extend your arms straight in front of your body and clasp your hands together. Next, using water as resistance, sweep your joined hands to point to the left side of the pool, then back across the body to the right side. Maintain a squatted position and keep your core engaged for the best results.
