Navigating today's modern dating landscape isn't exactly a walk in the park. Between dating apps and the superficiality they tend to breed, finding "the one" may turn out to be a less-than-enjoyable experience. But according to Ken Page, a New York–based psychotherapist, lecturer, and author of Deeper Dating, there are a few specifics to look for when trying to find a serious partner.
Specifically, Page recommends paying attention to how your date treats the people around him or her, especially those in service positions like restaurant waiters or front desk clerks. With kindness and understanding being two very important qualities to look for in a partner, taking note of the way your date treats those in vulnerable positions may help you discern his or her true nature.
"Kindness and understanding are two of the greatest aphrodisiacs that exist ... In your next dating experience, try practicing just a bit more kindness, understanding, and generosity [yourself]," he writes in an article for Psychology Today." The more you do this, the more you will come to value those same qualities in the people you meet." If your date isn't someone who "truly cares about [kindness and understanding]," he recommends "protecting your future by moving on."
