Starbucks Is Eliminating All Plastic Straws—Here's How it Impacts Your Order

Soon the days when your go-to Starbucks order will come with a single-use green plastic straw will be gone. The coffee chain has announced that it will eliminate plastic straws from all stores by 2020—a move that will prevent more than one billion straws going into landfill per year.

While this is great news for the environment—half of all plastics produced every year are single-use—it has also left straw devotees unsure how it'll impact their order. Iced coffee will be served in a new cup that Money likens to an "adult sippy cup," dome-lid drinks like frappuccinos will come with paper or compostable plastic straws, and hot beverages remain unchanged.

It's worth noting that Starbucks hasn't completely eliminated single-use plastic. Coffee cup lids and plastic iced beverage cups will still be sold, which are not biodegradable and contribute to landfills. Shop the reusable straws and cups below to cut your use of plastic altogether.
