We're big fans of anything that makes our lives easier (just ask the guys at Seamless), so it's no surprise that Anna Brockway holds a special place in our hearts. Co-founder of the online consignment shop Chairish, Brockway created the site to provide a place "for people who are crazy about home décor to buy and sell their items to one another," she explains. Inspired by her own need to switch up her furniture after a series of moves, Brockway wanted to create a place that made the whole process not only simple, but fun: "I love shopping vintage. I think that's what makes a room have character and style--I love the idea that we can make that easier for people." A CURATED EXPERIENCE To set themselves apart from existing go-tos like Craigslist and eBay the Chairish team established a vetting process for the online shop. "We're very selective about what items we take on the site. Instead of pages of broken down stuff to sort through, we've done the picking for you--everything on the site is cool, good quality, and fun to have." FULL SERVICE Brockway has also taken the creepy factor out of buying from a stranger, making Chairish the intermediary, handling the transaction and the delivery process--even offering a concierge service available to sellers in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco where they'll come pick up the item you're selling, measure it, photograph it, and post it on the site. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED As for general tips for buying vintage items online, Brockway, who is also chief curator and marketing officer of Chairish, says to be open to finding something unexpected while perusing the goods, "I think the fun is in the finding." She also stresses the importance of knowing all the details: "Be cognizant of scale and size and pay attention to condition reports. We're dealing in gently loved things at Chairish-patina is part of their appeal."
