Deciding to break up with your boyfriend is a difficult decision. You may be wondering if you're making the right choice by ending things, if you're giving up on the two of you too soon, or if you're just in a bit of a rut rather than at a relationship breaking point. But if you're constantly thinking, "Should I break up with my boyfriend?" and mulling over this hard and consequential choice, these six key reasons can help you to figure out if it's time to pull the plug and move on from your beau for good.

1. You're Fighting All the Time

Having disagreements with your boyfriend is a natural part of a relationship, as you both aren't going to agree with each other all the time. However, if you're finding that all you do is argue, that you're never able to resolve your fights, and you're constantly in a bad mood or angry as a result, it's time to break up. Fighting all the time with someone isn't healthy or productive, and totally disagreeing with your boyfriend on practically every topic can help clue you in that you're not right for each other. Rather than spending your time arguing until you're red in the face, take a deep breath, and break up with him.

2. You Feel Taken for Granted

If you're wondering if you should end things with your boyfriend, another clear sign that it's time to break up is that you feel taken for granted. If it seems as though you're unimportant to your boyfriend, he always puts his needs before yours, and he doesn't truly care about your thoughts and feelings, believe him. Being in a happy and healthy relationship means that both of you fully appreciate each other and make each other a priority. But if your boyfriend doesn't pay attention to you or seem to care if you're in his life or not, do yourself a favor and walk away.

3. You're Not Yourself

Another clear reason that you should break up with your partner is that you're not truly yourself in your relationship. For example, if you feel as though you're playing the role of the person you think your boyfriend wants you to be and don't open up to him about your true thoughts and beliefs, you're in the wrong relationship. You should be able to be your authentic self with your partner and bring out the best in each other. But if you feel you have to change who you are, act a certain way, or hide what's really on your mind, it's time to break up.

4. You Want Different Things

An additional reason that you should break up with your boyfriend is that your life goals don't align. For instance, if you want to have children one day and your boyfriend never wants to have kids, this major difference in your priorities will likely lead to heartache down the road. While it may be hard to break up with someone who doesn't share your future goals and values, you owe it to yourself to find someone who wants the same things you want in order to make your relationship fulfilling and long-lasting.

5. There Are Red Flags

Another key indicator that it's time to break up has to do with your boyfriend and relationship red flags. He may have acted in a certain way that caused you a bit of concern, but for whatever reason you overlooked it. However, if he tries to control you, has emotionally or physically abused you, refuses to introduce you to anyone important in his life, or has betrayed your trust, these actions should send off alarm bells in your head that it's time to break up with him.

6. You're With Him for the Wrong Reasons

If you're wondering if you should break up with your boyfriend, an additional sign that it is time to part ways is that your heart isn't truly in the relationship. For example, if you're with him because you're afraid of being single, you don't think you can do better, or you feel that you're running out of time to find someone, this should help clue you in that it's time to break up. You deserve to be with the man of your dreams, and if you're with your boyfriend because he has a nice car rather than a good heart, you should respect yourself and respectfully break up.
