It has certainly been a year filled with chic, inspiring small-space design trends across all rooms of the home. With rents continuing to rise in major cities around the globe, now more than ever, homeowners and designers are embracing the challenge of brainstorming outside-the-box ideas for spaces that often feel very much inside the box. This year, we were inspired by so many different ways to make a big impact with a small bathroom, from floors to sinks to lighting to paint. And with 2016 rolling to a close, we’ve made our list of favorites (and checked it twice). These bathrooms rank high on wow factor and low on square footage, using standout style to make a major impact in a small space. Scroll for our picks for the chicest small bathrooms we've seen all year.
There’s nothing quite like a black-and-white bathroom to set the tone for a glam getting-ready zone. This bathroom exemplifies major style on minimal space with all kinds of high-contrast. The glossy black tiles with white grout. The chic black-and-white wallpaper. That marble sink. A bathroom that looks this good would inspire me to look my best every time I left the house.
Even though it was one of Pantone’s Colors of the Year in 2016, blush has become a new neutral in our interior design vernacular. Decorating the bottom half of this bathroom in a soft pink shade gives the space a fresh and feminine feeling without being too girly for guests of both genders. The color-block look is simple, stylish, and modern when complemented by black, white, and gold accents in a few fun geometric shapes dotted throughout.
Working within a smaller space necessitates getting all the proportions just right. Large mirrors are a great trick to make any room look bigger, and this square mirror helps to amplify the bold style of this bathroom. Between the striking contrast of black walls and white tile and the chic sconces mounted on the mirror (another space-saving solution), I’m smitten.
Regardless of size, a bathroom is a place to feel refreshed and inspired as you muster up the courage to greet the day and head to work. This bathroom has all the bright moves, with an optic white backdrop for a clean start in the morning and edgy matte black fixtures and décor to set a creative, artistic tone.
A bathroom is also a place to relax, wash away the stress of the day, and get ready for bed. The dark walls in this small bathroom help to set the mood for sweet dreams after dark. There’s no sacrificing style due to space constraints or a slightly darker mood: A vintage rug adds a small, sophisticated layer of luxury to indulge before bedtime.
This stunning black-and-white bathroom is proof that chic things come in small sizes and that, sometimes, less square footage can be a blessing in disguise. When it comes to tiling a space in a dramatic, to-die-for pattern, it’s much simpler and more cost-effective if the space is smaller.
