Never underestimate the power of a beautiful shower curtain.
At first glance, a shower curtain seems to serve a strictly utilitarian purpose—it works as a barrier that keeps water from spraying all over your bathroom and gives you some privacy as you lather, rinse, and inevitably repeat. However, the right shower curtain has the power to turn your bathroom into an eye-catching space your guests are sure to compliment.
Trust me, I should know. When I moved into my new apartment two months ago, I was abnormally excited to choose a shower curtain. I've never had a bathroom that required a shower curtain before, so I wanted to find one that reflected my personal style, was more unique that the ubiquitous floral or striped options everyone has, and wouldn’t elicit that much sticker shock from my live-in boyfriend.
At first, finding a shower curtain that ticked all the boxes felt like Mission: Impossible. The affordable shower curtains I found didn’t embrace the cheery, California vibes I was trying to bring to my bathroom. Conversely, a lot of the styles I did like would end up costing me close to $200. (Read: Hard pass.)
At first, finding a shower curtain that ticked all the boxes felt like Mission: Impossible. The affordable shower curtains I found didn’t embrace the cheery, California vibes I was trying to bring to my bathroom.
But my shower curtain luck changed for the better when I stumbled across Society6’s collection of shower curtains.
You probably think of Society6 as a great place to buy affordable art, but what you might not realize is the site reimagines its featured artists’ drool-worthy designs into mugs, notebooks, smartphone cases, and, yes, shower curtains too.
Though I love the look of the shower curtain I ended up purchasing—an abstract style from the Old Art Studio—I’ll be the first to admit I was a bit skeptical about the quality. After all, Society6 isn’t known for its shower curtains. However, I was pleasantly surprised by what arrived at my doorstep. Not only is the curtain made out of a durable polyester, it’s also equipped with 12 buttonhole openings so you can easily hang your curtain.
I know what you’re thinking: This sounds great, but at what cost? While prices might vary by artist, most 71-inch by 74-inch shower curtains will cost you about $70. Admittedly, there are cheaper options on the market, but if you want to prioritize style, this is one destination that will deliver.
