While broadening access to the Pacific islands has already succeeded in lowering flight prices, Southwest's involvement will likely drop the price point even further; something Executive Vice President Andrew Watterson calls "the Southwest Effect," reports Travel + Leisure. "On average, our fares will be lower than theirs or bring down the market price."
"Hawaii is an important place for Southwest Airlines because so many people count on us to take them everywhere they want to go reliably and affordably," continued chairman and CEO Gary Kelly on Wednesday. "We're ready and excited to address a request we've heard for years."
While they aren't giving specific market information or price points just yet, Kelly guarantees that they will begin selling flights out of California in 2018 (pending government approval). In the meantime, start planning your trip to Hawaii, and shop our editor-approved travel essentials below.
