If you’re trying to lose weight, it’s a good idea to cut back on your alcohol intake as it racks up a ton of empty calories. However, a study from the American Chemical Society proves that there is a link between tequila and weight loss. Delish discovered the research which looked at how certain sugars found in the agave plant can help lower blood sugar levels. Known as agavins, these sugars are non-digestible and produce a hormone which keeps the stomach full longer.
The experiments were performed on mice who were given a standard diet and water with agavins added. The mice ended up eating less overall and had lower blood sugar levels than the mice who didn’t consume the agavins. This led scientists to believe that the agavins could have the same effects on humans. However, guzzling tequila in a sugary margarita might not have the best results, so be sure to order the best quality tequila you can afford and sip it on the rocks.
