Earlier this year Marie Kondo’s Netflix show, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, sparked some serious joy amongst viewers, providing binge-watching entertainment for millions and serving as a serious win for the streaming service. While there’s still no word on when we can expect season 2 of the show, Netflix announced this week that they are bringing another influential home organization force to television.
That’s right, the streaming site has a new lifestyle series featuring Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin of The Home Edit in the works. Even more exciting? Reese Witherspoon, under her production company Hello Sunshine, is executive producing the eight-episode series that follows the clutter-conquering, color-coding, container stacking geniuses as they attempt to make the world a more beautiful and functional place, one plastic bin at a time.
“There are no words to explain how today feels,” the duo wrote on Instagram along with the announcement. Witherspoon was equally excited about the news. “Wooohooo!! Let the games begin!!” she responded to their post. Gwnyeth Paltrow also declared the news “BEYOND exciting,” while Molly Sims, also an executive producer on the project, announced the news on her own page. “Started from my pantry and now we’re here!” she wrote. “I am beyond excited for you two and can’t wait for the world to see the magic on Netflix!”
According to the press release, the show will follow the duo as they clutter-conquer the homes of civilians and “big name celebrities” alike, dramatically transforming their homes and their lives. Each episode will include two organizational projects that promise to “entertain and inspire.” Other executive producers include Charlotte Koh, and Cynthia Stockhammer, Critical Content’s Tom Forman, Jenny Daly, and Jon Beyer and Tess Gamboa Meyers, who will serve as showrunner.
The Home Edit has quickly become a dominating force in the lifestyle realm. Not only has their Instagram account, filled with photos of their perfectly curated closets, cabinets and food pantries, amassed over 1.3 million followers, their 2019 book, The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals recently achieved New York Times best-seller status and is currently the top-selling do-it-yourself home improvement book on Amazon. And then there’s their celebrity fan club-slash-client roster, which reads like the guest list of an awards show red carpet, graced with names such as Paltrow, Khloé Kardashian, Mandy Moore, Molly Sims, and even Oprah.
While there is no release date at this time, you don’t have to wait for the show to stream in order to implement Shearer and Teplin’s trademark “contained, labeled, and zoned” method in your life. The Home Edit recently teamed up with The Container Store on an 18-piece collection that can help get your bathroom, bedroom and kitchen into Insta-worthy shape in no time. To help kick-start your organization session, we picked out our fave must-haves from the collection.
One of the things we love about The Home Edit collection at The Container Store is that you have the option to purchase items as a set and also a la carte. If you’re planning on tackling a big project—like getting your pantry in professional organization shape—you might consider splurging on a Starter Kit. This Kitchen Storage Solution includes staples from the product line, including two 2-Tier Lazy Susans, a 3-Tier Expandable Shelf, three Divided Lazy Susans, four Large 2.5 qt. Canisters, four Medium 1.5 qt. Canisters, and one traditional Lazy Susan.
Anything you want to delete or add to the starter kit? No problem! While the listed price includes all the above components, the girls have made it so you can customize the kit. This way, you don’t have to pay for what you aren’t going to use! Storage Solution starter kits are also available for other areas in your home, including the closet, bath, and toy & craft.
Almost every perfectly organized, Pinterest-worthy home includes beautifully labeled bins and bottles. While some have perfected the art of cursive and are basically professional label-makers themselves, most of us struggle—or simply don’t have enough time—to undertake the task.
This is why The Home Edit’s labels are on the top of our shopping list. The adhesive peel and stick labels, which come in packages of 36, are stylish, easy-to-read, and functional, each featuring the handwriting of Clea herself. In addition to the bath & laundry, they are available for the kitchen & fridge, closet, kids’ room, pantry and general storage.
If you follow The Home Edit on Instagram, you’re probably well aware that every organized closet, pantry, or drawer needs some sleek storage bins. These perfectly stackable clear containers include a divider, making them a perfect storage solution for everything from sweaters and tank tops to canned goods. Additionally, you’re going to want to invest in some of their other storage bins, like the Divided All-Purpose Bin and the Modular All-Purpose Bin, all of which systematically stack on top of each other.
Clea and Joanna are huge fans of using hooks to hang everything from handbags to pots and pans. Their clear, sleek, and durable S-Hook is strong and versatile and can help save some serious space all over your home.
Shelf dividers are often an overlooked component of home organization and can help clean up the look of any cluttered pantry or cabinet. These shelf dividers are here to help you keep everything from linens to kitchen staples in their own designated spaces.
