There are many places to buy furniture on a budget. But there’s only one place to buy affordable furniture from some of the top names in interior design. If you haven’t yet heard about The Novogratz, get ready to meet your new obsession. If you want maximum style for minimal cash, this fun and whimsical brand is the dream combination.
The Novogratz is both the brand name as well as the family name of husband and wife design team, Robert and Cortney. This dynamic duo has worked on the homes of many celebrities including Tony Hawk, Suzanne Vega, and Heidi Klum. They also have seven (yes, seven!) children.
You also may remember them from their time starring on Bravo’s 9 By Design or HGTV’s Home by Novogratz.
So it's no wonder their furniture line, which has pieces for every room in the home, is a real standout. At the risk of sounding like one of those overly-excited, over-loud TV salespeople, these prices simply cannot be beat! For example, sofas range from $270 for a futon to $899 for a queen-sized sleeper sofa. And beds start at just $149 for a twin-sized frame.
As for why these high-end designers decided to create an affordable line, Cortney Novogratz tells MyDomaine, “When you think of great designers like the Eames's, their goal was to make design accessible to all. Our best work is when we create for ourselves and then go to our manufacturing partners to derive affordable pieces from our vision."
When you think of great designers like the Eames's, their goal was to make design accessible to all. Our best work is when we create for ourselves and then go to our manufacturing partners to derive affordable pieces from our vision.
But being a family of nine, they understand the importance of budgeting. “So we may choose an expensive vintage dining table, but then look for value chairs. Everyone deserves good design because it brings happiness. Great design doesn't have to be expensive, and we get to bring that concept to life with our designs,” she says.
And if you’re worried about quality, you really shouldn't be. I have two pieces from The Novogratz and I can honestly say I’m very impressed. If you’re wondering how it compares to a certain line of European flat pack furniture, in my opinion, it’s far superior.

So how do they do it? Cortney shares that it has been a process. “It’s taken a few years for Robert and I to educate ourselves on how to make good quality furniture at a great value," she tells MyDomaine. "For example, we may need to tweak the size of a particular piece to hit a better shipping cost. By choosing excellent vendors to make our designs, we're able to combine our vision with their expertise to deliver an unmatched value.”
Here are some of our favorite pieces.
Marion Canopy Bed
This is my favorite bed ever. I actually own this bed and it’s a real showstopper. Available in black, white gold and gunmetal, this bed looks far more expensive than it is. While you can use it with a canopy, mine is open and makes my bedroom look so sophisticated.
It’s also fairly easy to assemble. A friend and I did it in three hours while drinking a bottle of wine. I was worried this project would ruin our friendship, but I’m happy to report it did not.
Chapman Sectional Sofa
Available in a green, blue, and gray velvet-like fabric, this chic sectional was designed for small spaces like apartments or studios. You can even buy a matching ottoman to pair with the sofa.
Weston Entryway Bench
This is the perfect piece of furniture for families that need to keep their entryways organized and save space. There’s room for everything from hats to shoes, coats, bags and more. The classic look of the off-white shelving and black frame can work with any décor scheme. This is a find that will be used and appreciated every single day.
Barbara 5-Light Chandelier
Lighting fixtures can be pricy, but this one makes a luxe, dramatic statement for just $80. It can transform a dining room, hallway, or entryway in an instant. This fixture is even great for renters who don’t want to be stuck with builder-grade lighting, but don’t want to invest too much cash into new fixtures.
Presley Seashell Chair
Old Hollywood meets Palm Beach with this on-trend accent chair. Available in cream, teal, or rose, this velvet chair features gold hardware and would pop in any room. The fabric is also easily cleaned with soap and water, so don't fret if you use the chair at your vanity to put on makeup, or as a place to kick back with a coffee or glass of red wine—spills won't be a huge worry.
Nora 3-Piece Pub Set
Don't have the space for a kitchen table or dining area? Or live in a studio apartment? This set ups the "wow factor" in the least amount of space possible. The table also has a trendy terrazzo style top with a brass frame.
Included in the set are two backless counter height stools with terra cotta colored padded cushions, and a table with shelves that can be used to display knickknacks or as storage for extra dishes.
Athena Computer Desk
This mid-century modern-style desk has gilded hairpin legs that pop beautifully against the white frame. The faux marble top is clean and sophisticated, making the desk a great choice for a home office or as a piece to use as a vanity desk for makeup.
