The U.S. is full of impressive tourist destinations, but none as seductive as The Big Apple. After examining TripAdvisor’s annual Attractions Trend Index—which measures the increased search activity for parks, city districts, and tourist sites during summer months—it’s clear that when planning a vacation, most Americans have their sights set on New York City.

Of the top 25 attractions listed on the index, a whopping five are in Manhattan alone, including the One World Observatory at the World Trade Center, which ranked at the top of the list. Other NYC-based attractions include Bryant Park, Central Park, Broadway, and, of course, the Statue of Liberty.

Other major cities featured prominently on the list include Chicago, whose Magnificent Mile ranked second on the list; Los Angeles, whose Venice canals ranked thirteenth; and San Francisco, whose iconic Pier 39 ranked fifteenth.

"From historic city streets to amazing sights from great heights, the Attractions Trend Index has revealed a wide variety of places that have captured the interest of U.S. travelers," said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor. "Travelers looking to take advantage of the remaining weeks of summer and shoulder season still have plenty of time to book a special trip and explore some these American attractions growing in popularity."
