The return of the original home renovation reality TV show Trading Spaces is almost here. With just a few weeks before the premiere of the TLC reboot on April 7, fans have been poring over every last detail and rumor surrounding the highly anticipated new season. Which cast members will return, what new faces will you see, what will the budget be, and how can you get on the show? While you can expect some major changes, many characteristics of the show you know and love will remain the same. Here is everything you need to know about the Trading Spaces reboot before it airs at the beginning of next month.
TLC has announced that Paige Davis, the lovable host, will return to her former glory as the narrator of the show. As for the other cast members, look forward to seeing designers Doug Wilson, Genevieve Gorder, Hildi Santo-Tomas, Vern Yip, Frank Bielec, and Laurie Smith, not to mention carpenters Ty Pennington and Carter Oosterhouse. In addition to these familiar faces, the reboot will introduce new cast members like designers Sabrina Soto, John Gidding, and Kahi Lee and carpenters Brett Tutor and Joanie Sprague.
The new season will also come with a larger budget, though it's still quite modest compared to other home renovation shows. The budget per room will double, from $1000 to $2000, according to TLC executive Howard Lee, who's optimistic about the relatively tight budget. He told TV Insider, "Viewers have become so accustomed to seeing designs done for $50,000 or $100,000. I think this will be inspiring."
Perhaps the most exciting news of all, everybody's favorite interior design couple Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent will make an appearance on the show as guest designers, according to an announcement at TCA. While the first season has already wrapped filming, the show is casting again. According to the Trading Spaces casting website, they're looking for homeowners and neighbors with real relationships to be a part of the show.
