Ever since Lauren Conrad made her public debut on Laguna Beach and The Hills, she has personified the kind of successful yet modest lifestyle we all hoped to one day lead. Over a decade later, and we're still turning to the author, entrepreneur, and TV personality for all things lifestyle-related, from personal style to healthy eating. Case in point: Her smart girl's guide to the salad bar, where she enlists the help of holistic nutritionist Kelly LeVeque to build the most nutritious salad possible.

According to LeVeque, the ideal salad consists of four hearty components: six ounces of protein, like wild-caught salmon or a hard-boiled egg, two tablespoons of a healthy fat, like avocado or olive oil, two cups of greens, like kale or spinach, and extra fiber in the form of Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, or broccoli. Finally, she recommends leaving the following nine ingredients out, or at least using them in strict moderation:

  • creamy dressing
  • sour cream
  • croutons
  • tortilla strips
  • fried chicken strips
  • shoestring onions
  • bacon bits
  • raisins or dried cranberries
  • candied nuts

Do you agree with Kelly LeVeque's suggestions? What would you add or remove from her list? Share your thoughts below.
