Although we're currently scrambling to assemble a last-minute Halloween costume, retailers are shamelessly alerting us to the fact that the holidays are right around the corner. But when we received West Elm's Holiday 2017 catalog at MyDomaine HQ, we were all pleasantly surprised—not one snowman or reindeer graced the 115 pages of the entire lookbook.
Don't get us wrong—we're all about getting festive for the holiday season. But it's admittedly refreshing to see retailers embrace a more elevated, universal aesthetic for the holidays that doesn't necessarily align with any one specific holiday or tradition (plus, the new offerings seamlessly blend with our year-round décor). Below, read up on the refreshingly modern trends that will dominate the 2017 holiday season, according to West Elm:
- It's all about the blue. While red and green made an appearance in the form of an evergreen tree, ornament, or flower arrangement, almost every page featured a deep jewel-tone blue. Think dining chairs, pillows, and even dinnerware.
- Think moody and celestial. With constellation plates, moon-inspired wall mirrors, and a stunning starburst coffee table, West Elm is not-so-subtly pushing a celestial agenda (and we don't hate it).
- Embrace velvet and faux fur. The retailer declared velvet "this season's lust-have," offering quilts, duvets, throw pillows, and blankets in the textured fabric. And who could ignore their gorgeous new faux-fur throws?
