It might only be June, but after the West Elm preview, we're counting down the days til fall and winter. This week, the brand invited MyDomaine to a private condo in downtown Manhattan, which it transformed with new-season furniture and décor. It was disorienting, to say the least: Outside, the sideway sweltered as the temperature hit 85-degrees. Inside, velvet throw pillows adorned plush sofas and Christmas trees took pride of place.
Holiday décor aside, the preview offered insight into the trends West Elm will be backing this year. Beyond wreaths and gifts, a clear color palette emerged with tons of textural finds. We also discovered that the brand will be focusing on the bathroom, a space it's previously steered away from. Expect to see crisp white robes, charcoal waffle towels, and slippers later in the year as well as an in-house hand soap and lotion line to rival our favorites at Aesop.
Heads up: These are the three top trends we spotted at the West Elm preview. Shop our picks below and head in-store when the new collections land in September.
Dusty desert hues took center stage. Picture terracotta sofas, dusty pink velvet throw cushions, and midnight teal rugs and vases. Unsure how to introduce these colors into your home? Follow West Elm's lead and choose either a cool or warm color palette then layer accessories in varying shades within that spectrum.
Wood and Brass
Mid-century modern design continues to dominate. Expect to see furniture and decor with wood and brass details, like this architectural lamp and side table.
We're big fans of West Elm's performance velvet sofas and now, the brand is releasing furniture in a new finish: distressed velvet. The fabric is super durable, adds texture to a room, and hides spills and stains.
