Home brewing has officially gone mainstream. What was once a niche activity for hobbyists and beer enthusiasts is finally coming to the masses thanks to a brand-new machine from appliance giant Whirlpool. It’s called the Vessi, and it promises to do for beer what the Keurig did for coffee.
But just because it might democratize home brewing, make no mistake: The Vessi is the real deal. Described as a miniature version of the fermenter seen in most breweries, the 24-inch appliance can handle a whopping five to six gallons of beer at a time. All you have to do it is pour your elixir into the stainless steel fermenter, and in a week you’ll have ice-cold beer, thanks to an integrated cooling system. The Vessi also comes equipped with a CO2 regulator, digital controls, and, of course, a tap.
According to Geek.com, more than 1.2 million people brew their own beer, which makes Whirlpool confident that there’s room in a crowded home appliance space for a machine like Vessi. To test its theory out, Whirlpool launched an Indiegogo campaign to test the market. If it succeeds, the Vessi will ultimately hit shelves and sell for $1899, with a $400 discount for early backers.
With Father’s Day just around the corner, your search for the perfect gift is over.
