It's hard to imagine that before Kristen Peña and her team at K Interiors got to work on this bright and spacious master bathroom, it was a small, dark space. However, according to the interior designer, it looked entirely different before she gutted the original room. "It was our goal to enlarge the space and get as much natural light into the bathroom as possible," Peña tells MyDomaine.
One glance at the finished space, and it's clear that the design pro brought her vision to life. By completely altering the original bathroom and hallway closets to expand the space and reorient the design, Peña was able to make room for a double vanity, walk-in shower, floating shelves, and even a skylight to bring in the sunshine.
What's left is a cheerfully bright space filled with natural textures and sharp geometrical design elements to create added interest. "The homeowners wanted to start completely fresh so everything you see is new," she explains. Curious about how to achieve this look in your own home? "My design direction uses natural textures paired with modern lines to create a calm yet interesting environment," Peña says. According to her, the star of the space is the patterned floor. "The pattern feels a bit playful, but by grounding it in black and white, we were able to make it feel sophisticated enough for a master bath," she explains.

Aside from the cement floor, Peña's greatest finds were the hexagon mirrors that now hang above the vanity. "The hex mirrors were the perfect shape to flank with sconces, not to mention they provided a more unique mirror shape than you typically see," she says. The mirrors are one example of how Peña leaned into mixed metals in this project. "Our clients loved the look of satin brass, so as to not overwhelm the space with brass, we mixed in black fixtures and tied the finishes together via the black and brass sconces," she explains. "We love how this helped ground the space and keep it timeless."

With such tight quarters, maximizing space was of great importance to Peña, but it was also her biggest challenge. "We wanted to ensure they had a double vanity to store everything, space to dry their towels, as well as linen storage over the toilet," the designer tells us. Thanks to her strategic layout and some chic décor, the space feels expansive but still fits into Peña's natural style.

According to Peña, her clients wanted a space that felt bright and evoked a sense of calm. So, naturally, textures and neutral colors were a must. "We typically do not use a lot of color because the textures and patterns speak volumes in keeping the space cozy and compelling," the designer shares. Her eye for neutrals clearly paid off, as the space has transformed into a relaxing sanctuary. "In the renovation process, it’s easy to get hung up on the details, so it’s really rewarding when you’re able to step back and see the before shot and how far it’s come," Peña concludes.
