Yale's Most Popular Class Teaches You How to Be Happy (You Can Take It Online)

The concept of happiness is one that entices most people. So much time is spent chasing this fleeting feeling, yet what does anyone really know about the science of well-being? Yale psychology professor Laurie Santos recently taught a course titled Psychology and the Good Life to students at the prestigious university. According to Yale Daily News, about one fourth of undergraduate students enrolled in the class, which speaks to the popularity of the course and concept. Due to its success, Santos is taking the course online to give an even larger audience the chance to hear her lectures on happiness.

The new course will be called The Science of Well-Being and will live on the online education platform Coursera. According to a description of the class, "the purpose of the course is to not only learn what psychological research says about what makes us happy but also to put those strategies into practice." You'll learn about the misconceptions many have about happiness along with activities and strategies that have been proven to increase happiness and build better habits. Homework assignments include activities like recording things you are grateful for and performing a random act of kindness.

So far, more than 11,000 users have registered for the course. It's free to enroll but users can also pay a fee of $49 to receive a certificate once they complete the class.
