While the holidays are cause for celebration, the stress of entertaining, buying gifts, and balancing so many different personality types is undeniably stressful. What's more is that self-care is the first thing to take a backseat—until December 26, that is. Enter Kristin McGee, a New York City–based yoga and Pilates instructor, healthy living expert, and Health writer, who has the perfect yoga pose to ease all of that holiday tension: Star pose.
"Whatever the cause, your tension levels are probably mounting along with your credit card bills," she writes. "Try star pose: It's a restorative posture that not only helps relieve physical strain but also lets you take a mental break as you breathe into the pose. Plus, it's a good way to release tension in the hips—something many of us have developed from focusing on forward-motion activities like walking and running."
To do the post, sit on the floor with your legs extended in front of you, arms at your sides. Bend your knees out to the sides, and bring the soles of your feet together. Hinge forward from the hips, and lower your upper body on top of your bent legs and feet. Clasp your hands together over your toes, and breathe. Hold the pose as long as it feels comfortable, and sit back up.
